| Andy and I prepare for The Gentlemen's Summer Reading Room by visiting our local Half Price Books. |
Greetings Fellow Gentlemen! Here in Seattle we actually had the spring sun shining today, which leads me to (falsely) believe that the toasty days of summer are just around the corner! A few weeks ago, while discussing our reading lists, I was reminded of one of my favorite yearly events, Pajiba's Cannonball Read. Basically, a bunch of very talented bloggers read 100 books in one year and commit to writing about each one. Since our day jobs keep us occupied for more hours in the day than we'd like, we've whittled the concept down for the clubhouse to a mini summer version, The Gentlemen's Summer Reading Room. Three months, from Memorial Day to Labor Day, and eight books. Write about each book you read on your Facebook page, blog, heck, you can tweet about them if you prefer. There are a few ground rules:
1. Each book must contain WORDS (I'm looking at you, World War I Photography book), and at least 100 pages of them.
2. Books read in the Reading Room must be new to you - you mustn't have read them previously.
3. You can read fiction, non-fiction, textbooks, self-help, whatever you want.
4. Write about what you've read, and then let us know by hitting us up here at the Clubhouse. We like 750words.com, if you're looking for an online diary sort of thing for this.
5. Once a month for the duration of the Reading Room, we'll get together and talk about what we've read and also a bunch of other unrelated stuff because talking is awesome.
So there you have it. Borrow, buy or scavenge up eight books and all of your prep work is done. Get ready for a summer of cultivating your giant brain!

Good on you, excepot you left that Elmore Leonard book there didn't you. He is a fine gentleman.
ReplyDeleteHe is! I borrowed that book from Caleb a while back and haven't read it yet. So I'll be fitting it in this summer.
